Fall Festival

Today was the Kindergarten Fall Festival.  I think it went so well.  There were three sections.  In the gym, they played 7 different games and got some fun prizes.

Sweet Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Stack

Mary Tyson and her dad came as clowns and made balloons for all the kids!

I had no idea Mary Tyson was so talented!  They were so sweet and patient with all the kiddos!

Addie and SB pause for just a moment for a picture

Mrs. Parker's entire class

Then they went to eat snacks.

Books

I am sick of looking at the book list on the right, so I am going to delete it in the next few days.  However, I have had lots of people ask me about my favorites that we read this summer.  That is so hard to do because there are so many good books out there.  But, I am going to give it a try...  You won't  necessarily see these on any other book list!  These are just some Henson Summer 2011 Favorites!

Any and all Curious George by Rey
The Gruffalo by Donaldson (also a movie at Target--thanks Weezie)
If you Give a ____ a ____ by Numeroff--She has a new one just out--If you Give a Dog a Donut
Mary Engelbreit's Fairy Tales (and also her Nursery Rhymes book)
The Great Monster Hunt by Landa and Warren
Fancy Nancy books by O'Connor-of course

All three of these are great resources for finding children's books.
1001 Children's Books you Must Read Before you Grow Up --I found this last week at Lemuria and oh,
my!  I am going to ask for it for Christmas.  It is a $39 book so it is a bit of an investment, but it is
beautiful!  It divides books by ages and each book has its on page-  from babies all the way to 12th
         grade!
Honey for a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt--I have had this one forever and love it.  My next goal
(maybe next summer's goal) is to go through this book and make sure that I have read all the books
it suggest.  There is a line out beside each book so I can write which kid and the date.
The Book Tree: A Christian Reference for Children's Literature by McCallum and Scott--This was
recommended by Weezie Polk.  I just ordered it for $4.00 from Amazon and I can't wait to get it!

Do you have any must have children's books that I need to know about?

Date Night

Chick Fil A had daughter-daddy date night.  Zeb took the girls.  We kept it a secret from them until the last minute.  While I was getting the girls dressed, Zeb and Sam went to buy some flowers.  Zeb came to the front door and asked if they would like to go on a date!  They were surprised and very excited!

A quick pic beforehand!

As usual, Chick fil A does everything right.  They had guys is tuxes open the door.  And they had this "balloon rainbow" set up!

The tables were set complete with flowers and a black tablecloth!

My kitchen looks beautiful with all the flowers!  The ones in the center Sam gave me!

Sam and I went on a date too, but since he can't talk we asked Ashley to go with us!  Unfortunately I didn't get a picture.  We went to 5 Guys and had YUMMY burgers!

Race Day

Today was race day!  Sara and I did another half.  Our last two long walks were really hard.  Two weeks ago, Sara was still struggling with getting her wisdom teeth out and last week it was so hot I got sick.  So, we really weren't too sure what to expect.  However, we both felt great this morning and the weather was ideal so we had a great race.  We walk the entire time--but we walk super fast.  As fast as we can without that funny speed walking gate! We knocked almost 8 minutes off our race in April so we were very excited!  I think it was all due to the fact that we had the best cheerleaders out there!

And definitely the best sign out there!  My sweet husband got up super early, cooked me and Sara breakfast, let the girls make a sign, and got all three kids out of the house by 7:15!  I better watch out because he is gonna start putting me to shame!

Waiting and watching...

Finally a spotting!  I am not sure who was more excited--them or us!

Post Race

When they weren't cheering, they were eating do-nuts!  They were Sam's first ones!  He ate 6 or 7 holes and thought that he had to have one in both hands at all times!

A better pic of the sign!
Even though we have both been pretty worthless the rest of the afternoon, we are already planning our next one!
