Easter

Christ Our Lord is Risen Today, Hallelujah! I believe this is my all-time favorite hymn and I love singing it! One of the reasons why I love Easter so much--even though it plays in my car year round!

We spent Easter lunch at my parents house. It is always so much fun. For as many years as I can remember, both sides of my parents family have come for Easter. It has been fun for everyone to get to know and care for each other over the years.

Here are My May and Bo Bo with their four grandchildren!

After lunch we had a great Easter egg hunt. SB can find some eggs!

Sara Beth and Katie feeding Aunt Sa and Mr. Nick some picy soup! (spicy) He was a sport to play along!

Zeb and I had discussed when the Easter bunny should come several times. We really didn't want to do it on Sunday morning. Santa doesn't bother me, but the Easter bunny really does. It worked out great this year, because the girls (including SB) didn't know that he would even come. So we didn't do it until late on Easter night. I would love to know ideas of what y'all do with the bunny on Easter. I am sure I will think about it all year!

Going down to town for the game (or something like that)

Sara Beth was so excited about going down to town for the game which really means that she was excited about going downtown for the race! Zeb ran his first 5K Saturday afternoon. It was the Run from the Sun which benefited the Melanoma Foundation. Zeb had two reasons for running: a group of doctors from UMC (The Dyspneic Docs) ran and my Dad and Elizabeth have had melanoma (both have huge scars for proof!)

Family pic before the race...

Since I know you are curious as I was...Dyspneic means "hard to breathe" in doctor words. The back of the shirts say "running hard and breathing harder".

Sara Beth and Katie warming up with Bo Bo!

And the race begins. Zeb is in the blue and gray shirt and Jimmy Stewart is in the red and gray.

I kid you not...for a solid hour Sara Beth yelled and pumped her arm for the runners..."GO GO GO!" "Good Job" and so on...

Here is Zeb finishing...23 minutes and 43 seconds! I'm impressed! He runs daily, but not for speed. According to the Clarion Ledger there were 900 runners and he finished 91st!

My sister, Sara, ran. I can't remember her time. I think it was right under 26 minutes, but anyway, she was the 3rd girl to finish!
And Dad... He missed 3rd in his age group by 20 seconds. He finished shortly behind Sara.
And Clark, my brother-in-law, finished shortly after Dad! (sorry I didn't get your face--you were too fast!)
Daddy offered SB a different view to cheer from--you can tell from her face just how much fun she had!

Mom and Elizabeth walked while pushing Katie and Bryson--you can see a great pic of them on the front of the Metro section of the paper.
There are many more pics of our family on the Clarion Ledger website!
I am so proud of everyone for finishing!

Happy Birthday, Davenports

You might call it the week of the birthdays in the Davenport household. Jen's is the 9th, Tucker's the 10th, and Eady's the 15th--so this was party weekend! They were all so much fun! Jen did a great job in the planning and the kids had a great time! Happy Birthday to all!

I wish that I got a final shot! This boy ate almost his entire cake and was covered in green by the end. This picture was taken at the beginning of his first cake experience!

I had the privilege of staying with Sara Beth's class while her teacher went to her own child's Easter party. It was so fun to be back in the classroom if only for an hour and a half! The teacher in me had to bring a book and an activity to do with them. I have really struggled the past two years coming up with activities and books that are on Sara Beth's level that explain Easter. She seems to be understanding a lot more this year and prayerfully that will continue as she ages.

Anyway, the book I read is my favorite Easter book that I have found. It is The Easter Story (Peek-a-Bible) written by Tracy Harrast. It is a really cute lift the flap book. Even if you don't have time to get it for this year, I recommend that you buy it and put it up for next year.

For the activity you will need...egg crates, 4 plastic eggs, rocks, skinny tree branches (i used a bush), hot glue, and white fabric. It takes maybe 10 minutes to get together. Hot glue 2 pieces of the branches together to make a cross.

After reading the book. Give the children an egg and the cross. Discuss that Jesus died on the cross. Give them another egg with the fabric. Discuss that Mary Magdeline and other women wrapped Jesus' body and his body was laid in a tomb. Give them the rock and an egg and this is for the stone that was put in front of the tomb. The last egg is empty because the tomb was empty on Sunday because Jesus was alive! I told them to go home and use these eggs to explain the Easter story to their parents.

I got this idea from Resurrection Eggs which you can buy at Lifeway. I do have these eggs and they are wonderful ( a must have), but they go into a lot of detail. This simplifies it with the main points of the story.

Eady was over playing a few weeks ago while My May (my mother) was here. The girls were in the playroom having a great time when Eady found Sara Beth's computer. Now SB got this computer for her birthday. My May took her shopping for it. There conversation went like this...
"Sara Bef I really like your compooter."
"Tank you"
"Where did you get it?"
"Wal-Mart"
"I want one"
"Well, all you have to do is get My May to take you to Wal-Mart and she get you one."
Eady comes up to My May... "My May will you take me to Wal-Mart to get me a compooter?"
My May melts and promises she will soon. My May made good on her promise on Tuesday and took the girls to Wal-Mart to get Eady a computer. As you can tell it was a hit. Thanks My May!
We had so much fun hosting Sara Beth's class for the Easter party this year. She was so excited to have her class over.

SB showing off one of the eggs she found!

They were so cute hunting the eggs. Some got really into it, and some would rather swing! They are so funny at this age!

Sara Beth and Leigh love playing the the sweet sweet girls who live on our street!

Leigh's thought process

How can I get this yogurt? Maybe I can lick it out...
Ahh, my tongue isn't long enough...I'll just have to use my hands...
Got it...YUMMY!!!!

I think we have a bear!

Who knew Mommy was so funny?

Always a ham!

My new thing

Sara, you will be sad to know that you will no longer be earning 25 cents a button--because after almost 29 years I have finally learned!

My mother-in-law is a master seamstress. She has made many gorgeous clothes for the girls. I will NEVER be able to do the things she can, but she has inspired me to learn to sew. My patient friend Jennifer has been encouraging me to do this for over a year--and she told me she would teach me! So, I am learning. She started with --this is thread! I knew nothing! I have made the girls each one thing. Don't look too closely!

My bib model had already gone to bed for the night!

And this model wasn't in to posing!

Loving the Weather

We have spent many hours outside the last few weeks! Springtime is such a wonderful time of year! God is so good reminding us mercies year after year!

Since Leigh isn't crawling she is in her pjs outside a lot so her sweet feet won't get torn up!

What a fun day!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day today so our family went to the zoo! We had a great time!

Checking out the flamingos!

I love that pointer finger! Leigh was mesmerized by elephants!

Well, I couldn't get a good picture because Leigh was too interested in the bears!

The penguins are at our zoo for the next 5 months. This was the main reason we went and the girls had great fun looking at them. There are 3 of them and they were very playful!

If you know my girls you know they love fruit!! I mean seriously love fruit! I am probably the only mom anywhere who limits fruit for their kids!

This is how Sara Beth eats her strawberries...

Before

After

"Leigh's birthday-again"-as Sara Beth said. Sara Beth had her party on the same day as her actual birthday, so it was very confusing that Leigh had 2 birthdays. She never said she wanted another one she was just confused! She didn't care very long when she realized she got to eat ice cream cake for breakfast!
Here is Leigh with her first bite of ice cream!

Sara Beth gave Leigh this very cool car! You can tell what Leigh thought of it!

Snuggle time with Daddy before work!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Bryson

Happy Birthday, Bryson! Your party was so much fun!

Bryson, my sister's little boy, turned 2 on March 3rd. His party was last weekend in Atlanta, however, I am just now getting around to posting! As you can tell, it was a bubble party! How much fun! Elizabeth, Clark, and Sara blew up 92 clear balloons (I tied). The kids had great fun playing in them. She also rented bubble machines and had bubble wands for the kids to play with. Bubbles bring joy to everyone-even the adults had fun playing in them. She also got a commercial roll of bubble wrap and everyone had fun jumping on it! Very creative Elizabeth and lots of fun!

Happy Birthday, Leigh!

Baby Leigh, you've been a joy from day 1.  Through the sleepless nights, the mouth-wide-open smile, the refusal to eat with a spoon, the love affair with ducks, and the red-headed temper, we wouldn't have changed one thing!  We love you, and we pray for many more wonderful birthdays.
