Getting Kids involved in Politics

My kiddos are 2, 4, and 6.  So, they don't really understand much of what is going on with the election.  Every time I  vote, I take my kids with me and we talk about the privilege and importance of voting.  To get them involved this year, we made Obama and Romney cookies.  Then we gave them away and let our family and friends vote on their favorite.  Sara Beth made a graph with everyones pick. They had a blast doing this.  We actually did it a while back, but they still discuss the cookies!  I think the results were so funny--it ended up tied!  Kind of like the election seems right now!

(recipes below)

I found these recipes in a magazine this summer.  Supposedly they are the favorite cookies of our candidates!  Let me know if you try this with your family!

Obama Cookies

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 stick Crisco butter-flavored solid vegetable shortening
         3/4 cup granulated sugar
         3/4 cup packed brown sugar

SB

I'm behind--again.  I can probably quit saying that because it is probably just assumed now!  Sara Beth finished up her soccer season a few weeks ago!  She is already looking forward to the spring!  I am so glad she loves it so much!

scoring a goal

The first grade went to the pumpkin patch a few weeks ago!  It was so fun, but way too warm to be at a pumpkin patch!

Leigh Leigh's guitar

Leigh has been saving her allowance for months now and saved enough to buy a guitar!  I think you can see her excitement and pride in her face.

And of course we have to have regular jam sessions now!

Fair 2012

Even though the fair has come and gone, my kiddos are all still talking about it!  My parents took us again and it was such a treat!

First stop...the animals

Next...the rides

Next stop...food

Final ride...the yellow slide
sam's first ride

sb's first solo ride

leigh gets up there and decides she wants to go by herself...maybe not the wisest decision

and it also may be time for bo bo to retire on the yellow slide.  i am not even sure he can sit down yet!
